Why Trees in the “Crooked Forest” of Poland All Bend in the Same Direction
In northwestern Poland, the Crooked Forest features around 400 Scots pines with uniformly bent trunks, a phenomenon scientists attribute to intentional human shaping in the early 20th century. This practice aimed to produce curved timber for various uses, but the project was likely abandoned due to World War II, leaving the trees as a unique testament to past human intervention.
