Supreme Court says arrest of person by police officer cannot be simply for asking questions

The Supreme Court has clarified arrest powers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Police cannot arrest individuals merely to ask questions. Arrest is a discretionary power, not mandatory. It must be an objective necessity for effective investigation, especially for offenses punishable up to seven years imprisonment.
