16 free fun things to do in February in Southern California

Feb. 1 — Silverado: Enjoy a family “Fossils are Fun” day in eastern Orange County’s Black Star Canyon starting at 8 a.m. Minimum age is 8. The hike runs 9-11 a.m. The day starts with a fossil-making activity, then a 2.5-mile hike searching for fossils deposited millions of years ago.
