You don’t want to arrive at your favourite anchorage only to discover that you’ve run out of water, your holding tank is full and there’s no gas left to cook dinner, or risk running out of fuel at a safety critical point of the navigation. You can carry spare cans and bottles, but it’s better to know where you stand with your tankage before you run dry.
