French ex-senator goes on trial over allegedly spiking MPs drink to sexually assault her

Former French senator Joel Guerriau went on trial Monday for allegedly spiking lawmaker Sandrine Josso's champagne in November 2023 in order to sexually abuse her. Guerriau denies the charges. The case has gripped France following the 2024 conviction of Dominique Pelicot, who was found guilty of repeatedly drugging and raping his wife, Gisèle.
