Winter storm grips much of US in snow, ice, Arctic cold

A massive winter storm is impacting over 118 million Americans with heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Bitter cold grips the nation east of the Rockies. More than one million customers have lost power across eight Southern states. Thousands of flights are cancelled. Federal and state governments have declared emergencies to manage the crisis.
