Maharashtra in talks to set up India’s first thorium-based power plants

Maharashtra is set to become the first state to host thorium-based power plants. The state government is in advanced talks with the Department of Atomic Energy and NPCIL. Two units, a 1,540 MW plant and a 440 MW unit, are planned. This initiative aims for clean and cheaper energy, aligning with national decarbonization goals. Power is estimated to cost ₹3.
