Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the observance which commemorates the life and legacy of the civil rights leader who fought to eliminate racism and segregation, continues to be a federal holiday. In 2025, it was removed from the National Park Service’s free admission days alongside Juneteenth. President Donald Trump criticized the number of non-working holidays, stating in a June 19 Truth Social post that they are "costing billions of dollars to keep businesses closed."
