Trump steps back from Iran strike as Tehran denies protest executions

US President Donald Trump has pulled back from immediate military action against Iran, claiming he has been assured the killing of protesters has ceased and that no executions are currently planned.

Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that his administration had received “a very good statement” from Iran and information from “very important sources on the other side” indicating a halt in state-led violence against demonstrators.
