Marine Le Pen ‘feels hopeful’ as appeal trial begins

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen is set to return to court on Tuesday to appeal a graft conviction, with her 2027 presidential ambitions hanging in the balance.  Le Pen was banned from standing for office for five years, which effectively disqualified her from running in next year's presidential race.
