Tapiola bridge collapse: project manager receives suspended sentence

A district court in western Uusimaa has sentenced a scaffolding company project manager to a five-month suspended prison term over the collapse of a temporary pedestrian bridge in Espoo that injured dozens of pupils.

The ruling relates to an accident in Tapiola in May 2023, when a metal pedestrian bridge gave way while a group of schoolchildren and an adult teacher were crossing it. The bridge collapsed onto a roadway about five metres below.
