Gadgil's communities are natural allies

Madhav Gadgil, a renowned ecologist, passed away this week. He believed local communities were key to conservation. Gadgil established the Centre for Ecological Sciences at IISc. His work on People's Biodiversity Registers empowered communities to document their ecological knowledge. His vision of participatory environmentalism remains relevant today.
