Palace Pier Burned Down On This Day in 1963
As I mentioned to Rob Bowman today on Toronto Mike'd, it was on this day in 1963 that Palace Pier, one of Toronto's premier dance halls, burned down. I was tipped off to this fact by Jeremy Hopkin, who also colourized the photo above.
To commemorate this anniversary, I biked to the site of Palace Pier, just west of the Humber Bay bridge. There is now a plaque affixed to the remnants of an abutment from the original Palace Pier dance hall, located along the Waterfront Trail just west of the Humber River's mouth.
