Dem who has served in Congress for nearly six decades calls it quits: report
A Democrat who has served in Congress for nearly 60 years will not run for re-election in 2026, according to a new report.
The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is hanging up his Congressional hat. He has served in Congress since 1981, and has spent more than two decades as the second-top Democrat in the House of Representatives.
“I did not want to be one of those members who clearly stayed, outstayed his or her ability to do the job,” said Hoyer.
