Crores off the rolls: EC's SIR unleashes politics too

India's Election Commission is undertaking a massive revision of voter lists. This exercise, called Special Intensive Revision, began in 2025 and continues into 2026. It aims to clean up electoral rolls by verifying citizenship and removing ineligible voters. The process has already removed millions of names and faced political opposition and legal challenges.
