Hannes storm cuts power and disrupts travel across Finland
Winter storm Hannes brought power cuts, traffic disruption and dangerous weather conditions across Finland on Saturday, with wind gusts exceeding 30 metres per second in coastal areas and wave heights over seven metres recorded in the southern Gulf of Bothnia.
More than 5,000 households lost electricity during the early hours as the storm began sweeping across the country from the west. The number continued to rise through the day, with emergency services reporting widespread tree falls and property damage.
