Secondary particulate matter is a core driver of dangerous PM2.5 in India: CREA analysis
New analysis reveals a large part of India's PM2.5 pollution forms chemically in the air. Up to 42 percent is secondary particulate matter, mainly ammonium sulfate from sulfur dioxide. Coal power plants are a major source of this sulfur dioxide. Experts stress controlling this precursor gas is vital for cleaner air. Current strategies overlook this significant issue.
