Smoke detector giveaway, installation program in Colonie

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The town of Colonie fire departments and the American Red Cross will host a free smoke detector giveaway and installation program. It will take place at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Colonie Village Fire Department.

This year, Colonie has had five fire deaths. Fire officials said all of the deaths occurred in a home without working smoke detectors.
