In the last few years, the biggest “what if” in the steel industry has been whether Nippon Steel will or won’t invest in U.S. Steel. For those who haven’t been following, in December, 2023, Nippon Steel, a Japanese company, announced its plans to invest nearly $15 billion in U.S. Steel. Since the announcement, the deal has been on a roller coaster. President Joe Biden was against it, as well as the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, under his presidency.
