Update: Penny-sized hail anticipated with thunderstorms to hit Yosemite Sunday – gusts to hit 50 mph
An updated weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 2:41 p.m. for strong thunderstorms in effect until 3:15 p.m. for Yosemite.
The storms are packing wind gusts of up to 50 mph and penny-sized hail (0.75 inches).
“At 2:40 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 8 miles southwest of Tioga Pass, or 16 miles southwest of Lee Vining. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary,” states the NWS Hanford CA. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
