Rent scam, retail theft in Saratoga

Theft by false pretense: A Saratoga resident reported that someone acting as a representative with a property management company posted an apartment for rent online. The victim wired approximately $6,300 to an unknown account as a deposit only to learn the rental was a scam.

Organized retail theft: At 9:40 p.m., two suspects entered Safeway in the Argonaut Shopping Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and, acting in concert, stole merchandise valued at approximately $300.
