Himanta Biswa Sarma invokes 1950 law to fast-track deportation, bypassing foreigners tribunal

Assam government plans to speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that existing laws allow Deputy Commissioners to order the pushback of illegal immigrants. This bypasses the need for Foreigners Tribunals in every case. The identification process, previously slowed by the NRC update, will now gain momentum. Pushback efforts will continue.
