Why Walmart’s Cake Artists Are Winning Over America

In a retail world driven by volume, efficiency and automation, you might assume the best-paid hourly employees at Walmart are in tech-heavy departments or managing complex logistics. But the real icing on the cake? It’s cake decorators.

The Associated Press reported that Walmart confirmed this week that its cake decorators earn more on average than any other hourly position in a typical U.S. store, excluding managers. At $19.25 an hour, they outpace the $18.25 average for non-managerial roles across the company.
