New Covid variant spreading globally, detected in Finland

A new strain of the coronavirus, designated NB.1.8.1 and informally known as Nimbus, has been detected in Finland as it spreads rapidly across multiple continents.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) confirmed that five cases of the variant have been identified in the country. The World Health Organization (WHO) has placed the new strain on its list of variants under monitoring, citing its potential for increased transmissibility compared to earlier subvariants.
