Punishment Announced for Sovereignty Jockey Junior Alvarado After Kentucky Derby
A week ago today, May 3, jockey Junior Alvarado led Sovereignty to victory in the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
Just a few days later, trainer Bill Mott revealed Sovereignty wouldn't be running the 150th Preakness Stakes, ending any hope of a Triple Crown winner this year.
"I don't know of anyone in the camp that was interested in running him back in two weeks. We definitely discussed it, but we opted to point to the Belmont. He wasn't any more tired than you would expect after the Derby," Mott said...
