Satellite tracking reveals key forest habitats for endangered wolverines
Finnish researchers have mapped the habitats of the endangered wolverine nationwide for the first time, using satellite imagery, field data and snow track observations to understand the animal’s movements and environmental needs.
The study, published in Ecology and Evolution, was carried out by researchers at Aalto University in cooperation with the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). It introduces a large-scale remote sensing method to assess wolverine distribution, offering critical insights for conservation efforts.
