Lorde fans took over New York City’s Washington Square Park in such big numbers that the police had to shut down her plans for a pop-up event.

The 28-year-old singer simply sent out a text to fans at 4pm ET and told them, “Meet me in the park. Tonight 7pm – xx.”

Lorde didn’t say which park, but fans figured out that something was happening in Washington Square Park, which is near the campus of NYU.

The event happened amid Lorde‘s recent announcement that her song “What Was That” will be released soon.
