Mother honors son lost to gun violence

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The Lafayette community came together Saturday to commemorate "Nick Day," a heartfelt event honoring the life and legacy of Nicholas Alfred, who life was tragically lost to gun violence three years ago. According to Nick's mother, Jessica Duger, he sacrificed his own safety to protect others.

Duger describes her son as a "sweet soul" who was musically inclined and loved God.

The event is designed to educate the youth about gun violence.
