New Zealand can witness a vivid and spectacular southern lights tonight

A recent solar storm has increased the likelihood of seeing the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights. Otago Museum astronomer Ian Griffin suggests stargazers in southern regions like Otago, Southland, and Canterbury should seek dark, southern-facing viewpoints tonight. There's even a chance the lights could be visible farther north if the storm persists strongly.
