SC puts the brakes on moral policing; overturns Rs 10 lakh fine for mocking social media posts
The Supreme Court on Tuesday stated that moral policing is not the judiciary's role while overturning a Punjab and Haryana High Court order. The High Court had directed musician Vishal Dadlani and politician Tehseen Poonawalla to pay a ₹10 lakh fine for mocking a Jain monk in their tweets, despite ruling in 2019 that no criminal offense was committed.
