24-year-old gets nearly 40 years in prison for Topeka kidnapping, deadly shooting

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A man accused of killing a 37-year-old Topeka man and kidnapping a child last year received his sentence this week.

27 News checked with Shawnee County court records that show Rammelo H. Boatwright, 24, received 475 months or just under 40 years in prison for his part in the death of Kyle E. Higgins in 2024. Boatwright previously pleaded guilty on Jan. 28 this year to the following charges:

• Murder in the second degree.
• Aggravated robbery.
• Kidnapping.
