The United States looked set on Thursday to be picked by FIFA next year to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup as the event expanded to 48 teams from 32.
The country’s intention to bid for the 2031 edition and the United Kingdom’s push for the 2035 event are alone in the contests after a first deadline to enter the race passed. The first formal bid documents must be signed by the end of April.
