TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka food bank learned earlier this week an upcoming shipment of food is canceled due to spending cuts at the federal level.
27 News spoke with a Harvesters spokesman who said the cuts were brought on by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Emergency Food Assistance program. The scheduled shipment to Harvesters in Kansas and Missouri included 41,000 cases of healthy and fresh food including 2.4 million pounds of meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and fruit.
