Construction of non-profit grocery store begins

LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) -- Second Harvest Food Bank and United Way of Acadiana begin the construction on a non-profit grocery store to combat Lafayette's food deserts and improve access to nutritious food on Lafayette's Northside.

The non-profit store would be called Makin' Groceries Store and would be located at 215 East Pinhook Rd. The store is expected to open later this year where it will continue to improve accessibility for affordable healthy food for local residents and end hunger for those in need in Acadiana.
