Sleeping man rescued from fire in abandoned house in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A man squatting in an abandoned house in Lafayette was rescued from a fire in the house this morning, authorities said.

Lafayette firefighters responded to a 911 call at 8:38 a.m. today of smoke coming from a vacant home in the 1100 block of Cameron Street. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the abandoned property. First responders entered the house and discovered a small fire in a bedroom and a man sleeping on a mattress.
