First day back to school in Topeka could end with snow day

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka Public Schools (TPS) is watching the weather closely Friday as a possible winter storm approaches the area, potentially threatening the first day of school in 2025.

27 News reached out to USD 501 on Jan. 3 to see how the district is planning ahead of a winter storm for the weekend of Jan. 4-5. Students are scheduled to return to the district's classrooms on Monday, Jan. 6 for their first day of classes in 2025. TPS spokesman Aarion Gray said school officials are keeping an eye on the weather situation.
