White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief reporters Friday as the House holds its Speakership vote.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is fighting to keep his gavel as at least a dozen conservatives have been tight-lipped on whether they will support him. At least one lawmaker has already openly voiced his opposition for Johnson.
The briefing also comes after the New Year's Day attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas have left the U.S. reeling with fear of military extremism and potential political violence.
