DGTR probing alleged jump in steel imports for safeguard duty; to consult MSMEs as well

The Indian government is investigating a possible increase in steel imports. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) will consult with small and medium-sized businesses. Domestic steel producers want higher import taxes. However, user industries and exporters oppose the taxes. They say higher steel prices will hurt their competitiveness. A final decision on import taxes will come later.
