Buda Police warn of phone scam impacting Buda, Hays County residents

BUDA, Texas (KXAN) -- The Buda Police Department warned Buda and Hays County residents to be aware of a phone scam asking victims to pay the caller "significant" amounts of money through bitcoin, crypto-currency, or a wire transfer.

BPD said victims report the call being from people claiming they are a part of the sheriff's or police department, and have a warrant for the victim's arrest.

The caller ID will also show it is the number for the Hays County Sheriff's Office through spoofing, according to BPD.
