AUSTIN (KXAN) — American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks shook off a bloody hand and bad memories of a previous Olympics to claim silver Tuesday at Stade de France in Paris.
Kendricks cleared 5.95 meters (19 feet, 6 1/4 inches) on his first attempt at the height, edging Greece's Emmanouil Karalis who cleared 5.90 meters for bronze. Kendricks cut his hand on his first attempt of the finals, easily clearing 5.50 meters.
