TOPEKA (KSNT)—As of July 22, 2024, the Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) is no longer at its maximum capacity.
Helping Hands told us they have received 486 animals in the last 22 days. However, after announcing zero-dollar adoptions last week, 171 animals were adopted.
27 News spoke with Grace Clifton, the director of philosophy at HHHS, who clarified the organization's mission when it comes to max capacity.
"When we don't space, we have to make space, so we do zero-dollar adoptions," Clifton said.
