The New York Mets claimed veteran lefty Alex Young off waivers from the San Francisco Giants Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse. The team also announced that lefty Tyler Jay was designated for assignment.

Young, 30, pitched two scoreless innings for the Cincinnati Reds this season before being traded to the Giants on July 8 for outfielder Austin Slater. He did not appear in a game with San Francisco. He is 16-18 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.41 WHIP for his career.
