AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin man died while hiking in the Grand Canyon National Park, the National Park Service said Monday.
According to park officials, a report of an unconscious hiker was received around 7 p.m. Saturday on the River Trail. The hiker became unconscious and bystanders gave him CPR while paramedics responded from Phantom Ranch, but efforts were unsuccessful.
The hiker was identified as 69-year-old Scott Sims from Austin, the park service said.
